You Don't Want to Get Bulky!
“You don’t wanna get bulky!”
That’s what the guy working out next to me is saying. It’s his response after asking me why I was doing so many deadlifts and me telling him about how I’m competing in the Women's Barbell Classic.
All sorts of things went through my head during this exchange but I just laughed and said I wasn’t too worried about that.
Here’s the thing I AM worried about…
That the majority of the people in our society assume that if someone (especially a woman) is exercising or eating a certain way it must be to lose weight.
It’s also concerning to me that so many people think that a strong woman = a big woman = an unattractive woman.
I’m lifting heavy these days because I want to get as strong as possible. If that means I get “bulky” in the process, so be it. I’ll just take up more space and throw more weight around.
