I'm Still Trying

I've been really frustrated by my failure to work resistance training into my routine over the past several months.

Last fall and winter Michael and I were training with Fitness With Angie on a regular basis, and it was awesome.

Since April, vacations and work and parenting have become big obstacles to the schedule we had in place. I also struggle with going inside to exercise when the sun is shining and I don't need a coat. Some people call these "excuses". I call them "life".

Recently, I started using an app created by some psychologists Sonya Heitshusen and I are working with. It's nothing fancy, but it helps you track your behavior and also comes with a "health coach". My coach, Susie recently messaged me. "I notice you're struggling a bit to get the strength training going. Have you considered putting it on your schedule and treating it like an appointment?"

Simple, right?

That's what I did.

My plan was to go to the YMCA of Greater Des Moines and take a resistance class this morning, but instead I went to Gray's Lake Parkwith my husband and my little boy.

hen I stewed and felt guilty about failing to lift, AGAIN.

A few hours later I thought, screw this! The huge pile of laundry, the phone calls I need to make and emails I need to send can wait. I know what to do and how to do it, I just need to DO IT.

So this is what I did before I got ready for work, while Michael Francis took his nap.

It doesn't have to be perfect. Something is better than nothing. These aren't excuses. This is my life.
