A Mother's Love

Wow.

Three years ago Michael and I were squished together in a hospital bed whispering about this incredible little human that had entered our world that afternoon.

“He’s here.”

“I can’t believe it.”

“He’s so tiny.”

“I can’t believe it.”

“He’s so cute.”

“I can’t believe it.”

Those first few hours, days and weeks are such a blur, but what’s sharp and clear is the love that takes your breath away.

There’s nothing else like it.

You can feel incredible love for your significant other, your parents, your friends, your siblings, your pets...but the love for your child is...

Overwhelming...

All encompassing...

So enormous it makes your heart feel as if it might burst out of your chest.

This parenting gig is the most amazing, exhausting, enlightening, frustrating, terrifying, rewarding, transformative thing I’ve ever experienced.

Happy birthday, Michael Francis. Thank you for making me a mommy and for teaching me so many things these past three years.

I love you.
